ASCARI – Powered by Venios

Venios Energy Platform is now part of one of the most modern grid control rooms in Germany. Together with IDS Group, we are implementing the ASCARI grid stability management system for Stadtwerke Schwäbisch Hall.

ASCARI is a product that provides grid services to third parties. More and more smaller grid operators are struggling with skills shortages, high system costs and complex processes. Stadtwerke Schwäbisch Hall offers grid management processes (stability control, security, supply performance, dispatching, cascade) as a service, using IDS’ technology and our own Venios Energy Platform for transparency and control of low and medium voltage grids.

More information about ASCARI can be found here (german).

Korea meets Venios

As part of the BMWi Energy Export Initiative, decision-makers from South Korea visited us on April 12, 2019 to learn more about intelligent grid expansion and the use of IoT and big data in planning and management of power grids.

At the symposium “NetzImpuls 2019” on March, 19 in Aarau, Switzerland, Dr. Danzeisen held a talk about “Multi-Level Control Strategies for Medium and Low Voltage Networks”.

Greenbird IT Joins Forces with Venios to Accelerate Grid Modelling and Visualization

Norwegian technology company Greenbird has joined forces with German IT solutions and consulting services provider Venios to accelerate the delivery of innovative data services to utility companies.

The biggest barrier to providing data services for analytics platforms such as Venios is data access and data quality in utilities’ systems. Preparing and provisioning high quality data can be difficult and time-consuming, leading to delays in delivering projects. Greenbird’s Utilihive Digital Integration Hub accelerates data integrations and data quality, enabling faster access to better data. By teaming up with Greenbird, Venios can offer a quicker, more streamlined grid analytics service to their utility company customers.

The new partnership sees the continued growth of Greenbird’s Utilihive ecosystem. The ecosystem is a collaboration of highly expert, specialized enterprises servicing utility companies. This expertise can be delivered faster by integrating with Greenbird’s Utilihive platform. Working together, the Utilihive ecosystem can drive digital innovation in the energy sector. It enables utilities to use technology that paves the way for digital grids, eMobility, microgrids, distributed energy sources and smart cities.

“As innovators, we supply our customers with new business-cases. Key to our endeavors is the ability to integrate the required data in a fast and reliable way. Greenbird creates the potential for even faster implementation with the customer, accelerating the digital transformation of our grids.” said Dr. Jonas J. Danzeisen, CEO @ Venios GmbH

Greenbird’s CEO and Co-founder, Thorsten Heller said, “It is very exciting to start working with Venios who are doing amazing work in grid analytics and visualization. In 2019, the fastest way to provide innovation to utility companies is to work in partnership. It’s amazing to see how the idea of providing a platform, Greenbird’s Utilihive Digital Integration Hub, is driving the energy revolution.”

Utilihive Digital Integration Hub: At the Center of an Ecosystem

The challenge faced by startups and established utilities alike is access to data. Often this is locked in legacy systems, such as data from smart metering, intelligent electronic devices (IED) and geospatial information (GIS). Organizations can find legacy system data challenging to access and integrate. In addition, traditional legacy systems are not designed to handle the increased volume and speed of data exchange required for these new intelligent grid analytics and machine learning applications.

Greenbird’s Utilihive platform offers a solution to these challenges by delivering prebuilt support for integration to legacy systems that handle data from IoT devices, smart meters, and other traditional enterprise data.

Phoenix Contact and Venios Announce Cooperation

With the elimination of conventional producers, distribution grids will face new challenges in the future.

There is increasing volatility due to renewable energies, and consumer demands on security of supply are increasing. This means that cost-optimized management of assets becomes more difficult under today’s conditions. For these reasons, Phoenix Contact and Venios will provide the market with an IoT platform solution that ensures transparency and controllability at the mid- and low-voltage level and enables economically optimized management of distribution grids.

Phoenix Contact is a globally present, Germany-based market leader. The group is synonymous with future-oriented components, systems, and solutions in the fields of electrical engineering, electronics, and automation. In addition to mathematical models, the solutions from Phoenix Contact provide live data from local grid stations, renewable plants, and transformer stations. They form the basis for optimized forecast control as well as automated network management in the distribution network. In the future, the PLCnext platform from Phoenix Contact will serve as the basis for interoperable data exchange between different subsystems in the lower distribution network level.

Partnership: Hausheld and Venios

Metering service provider Hausheld based in Mönchengladbach is developing and operating measurement and billing systems for 25 years and has received several awards for innovations. Intelligent measuring systems from Hausheld in combination with Venios Energy Platform allow for distribution grids to be managed and monitored in a secure, intuitive, time-series and scenario-based manner in real time. Thus, it is possible for grids to be faster in accurately locating failures and to simplify the assessment of “what if”-network situations.

You can experience the first results of the cooperation live at the upcoming E-world in hall 5, booth 126.
