Report about the project regarding the implementation of Venios Energy Solution (VES) „IGO“ in Buchen

Challenges of the municipal utility provider Buchen

The distribution grid of the municipal utility provider Buchen will face new challenges, because of the continuous increase of renewable energies in the power generation. The municipal utility provider Buchen has to balance the high fluctuation in power generation and consumption. Otherwise the people might experience outages. The investments into the power grid are important for a sustainable and secure energy supply, but implies high investment costs.

Solution

By using innovative smart grid solutions like the new IT solution Venios Energy Solution (VES) investments can be dramatically reduced. While integrating actively contrallable net components, different fundamentals for planning and simulation, critical situations (e.g. congestions) can be identified beforehand and finally prevented by implementing the right measures. The use of VES brings transparency into the power grid. In each grid node, VES reliably calculates the current and voltage without using hardware components. Like this, a common distribution grid becomes a smar grid.

Project implementation

Venios analyzed the situation and determined in close collaboration with the municipal utility provider Buchen the implementation plan. In a first step, all data about the assets of the grid (e.g. power lines, trafos) including technical specifications (e.g. technical data of PV panels) are added to VES. In a second step, VES was configured according to the individual requirements and the three substations equipped with Janitza measurement hardware components were integrated into VES. In a last step, the VES system was introduced regarding the functions like net monitoring and simulation.

Outcome

Having a visualized distribution grid network, the possiblity to build scenarios about future grid states and simulate them, it is possible for the municipal utility provider Buchen to actively manage the grid by having an superior data basis. Having done this, the efficient network expansion and modification as well as the control of switchable operation units like the controllable substation, controllable section points or storage system are possible. Additionally, critical voltage situations will be securely identified beforehand.
